As the father of a high school student and a heavy user in my home office I’ve been through a bunch of Chromebooks (I buy a new one for me and give him my previous one each time his current one breaks, which is frequently) and have found them to be uniformly cheap (in the wrong way), underperforming and poorly made, particularly the HP Chromebooks which are frankly pure garbage. The Asus chromebooks are the best inexpensive ones I’ve found, at least they last longer than a few months, but they’re still quite cheap feeling.I took a chance on this Acer because it’s got HD resolution and IPS display in an aluminum chassis, and so far I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s the only chromebook I’ve used that actually feels like a laptop rather than a toy from Wal-Mart. It’s solidly constructed, has a high quality keyboard, excellent display and best of all really sings when using the internet. Every other chromebook I’ve used is laggy and slow, regardless of connection speed (200mbps+ at my house). This acer flies. Pages load almost instantly and there’s no lag when scrolling.I’ve been enjoying this chromebook so much I’m tempted to buy another just as a spare. But I’ll wait until my sons current Chromebook craps out, as they always seem to, and see how this one lasts in his backpack in the school environment. So far, this is the only Chromebook I would heartily recommend to anyone. Mine was refurbished and works flawlessly.

This is a great computer. I’ve had this a month; I just recently switched over to using a Chromebook for the first time after decades of using PCs. My last PC laptop died after 18 months, and I’ve found that that is the typical lifespan for a laptop. I was sick of doling out $350-400 every other year, so I decided to try the Chromebook.I suspect that this one will last longer than that. Let’s go through the hits, then the single miss. The screen is bright; it is true HD; and the increase in detail from 1368 to 1920 pixels is amazing. The speakers are good and loud. As the title of this review says, I can easily keep well over 20 tabs open simultaneously without any problems whatsoever. I have 17 tabs open as I type this, and the computer is doing fine. I typically have far more open than that, though – approaching 30. The “hard drive” is an SSD = Solid State Drive, so there are no moving parts to this thing. It boots up in 10 seconds, flat. Amazing! The 32GB storage is enough, but you can open up a Gmail account and store your stuff in the cloud instead. (Gmail hasThe keyboard has nice action to it. It comes with a wireless mouse, which works well, and is pretty cool – never had one before. The battery life is kind of insane! No, it’s not the 12 hours advertised. But it’s easily about 6 or so, and that’s a huge leap over any of the PC laptops I’ve ever used. It’s thin, it’s light, it’s metal. The thing just works, period. No crashes, no annoying “Windows must update your computer for the next hour.” Chrome updates automatically in the background without my having to do a thing – as it should be.The only miss, the only problem, of course, is that it doesn’t run any software. Now, this really isn’t a miss at all – this is how a Chromebook machine is designed from the get-go. But you have to really, really understand this going in before you make the switch to Chromebook. For me, there are only two programs that I ever run on my computer. One is Turbotax, and I know you can simply run that online, so that’s not a problem. The other is a planetarium program called Stellarium – it shows you where all the stars and galaxies and such are. I’ve got a workaround for that, too, as it runs off-line. I’ve downloaded it to an old (2008) desktop computer, works fine. So, I’m all set.My only actual complaint is the keyboard alignment. It seems shifted to the right about a half an inch, which messes me up. In other words, I’m a touch typist, and when I go to put my fingers on the keyboard, I find that I’m putting them in the wrong spot initially. As I’ve used the keyboard more and more, this is less and less of a problem, as I adjust to where the keys actually are.

While this is my first Chromebook my wife has had one for a while and I’ve used hers extensively. We are preparing for a trip and my old Dell laptop is great but Its a brick! I bought this to use when traveling and light duty work.I research things pretty deeply before making a purchase. I decided on this model because in my opinion it is the best balance between cost and performance. There are Chromebooks that perform faster but you will pay significantly more for the difference in power. Since I purchased my Acer Chromebook the price has dropped to below $200.00.There are a number of reasons to consider a Chromebook. My reasons are:1. Starts up almost instantly.2. I don’t have to worry about viruses. Google does a great job of keeping Chromebooks virus free.3. It is lightweight and travels well.4. The battery will allow you to use your Chromebook many hours before needing a recharge. The pluses of this Chromebook are in no particular order:1. It comes with a wireless mouse. You will need to open the mouse to install the battery and to plugin the wireless adapter to your Chromebook to use it.2. The screen is gorgeous. I opened a movie on YouTube full screen and it looked great.3.The sound is better than I expected. The speakers are pretty good given they are small.4. It looks great. I must admit l don’t care about looks, I’m interested in performance. The refurbished Chromebook I received hasn’t a scratch, dent or any other blemish. It is flawless in appearance.5. The packaging is first rate. I always hold my breath wondering how well the seller is wrapping my purchase. This was the best protected purchase I’ve made on Amazon, bar none.6. This isn’t a powerhouse laptop and shouldn’t be put down because it isn’t good as a video editing machine, etc. This is a Chromebook and does well as a Chromebook. If you want to edit sound and videos a Chromebook isn’t the right machine for you.7. I like the two USB and 1 HDMI port on the left side of the laptop. The power plugin and headphone jack is located on the right side of the machine. Many Chromebooks don’t have this additional connectivity.8. It comes with 4 gigs of memory and 32 gigs of storage. Many Chromebooks come with 2 gigs of memory and 16 gigs of storage. This makes the Acer standout among Chromebooks at this price point. The Cons:1. The keys on the keyboard are slick. While this is a minor issue I would have preferred a keyboard surface that had a bit more texture. I have big hands and while I’m a touch typist the keyboard is a bit of change for me and will take some getting used to.

Overall:It is well worth the money for less than $200, as long as you understand what it can do for you and its limitations.Mine has model number CB3-431-C3WS, which is the 2018 one with ac wifi. It came as good as new, although it was not packed in its original packaging. It booted up in a few seconds and required an internet connection to set up. Strangely, it came with a ChromeOS built in late 2016 but an update was fast and easy.It is easy to praise it so I would rather start with cons.Cons:- No flash memory card slot to expand the limiting 32GB internal storage.- No touch screen to make full use of Android apps.- No USB-C ports in 2018.- No keyboard backlight.- The touchpad has poor tracking and clicking mechanism, but it does come with a decent wireless mouse to compensate for that.- Downward-facing speakers, leading to low volume when there’s no hard surface to reflect the sound.- Not so bright monitor but it’s sufficient indoor.- ChromeOS has poor display scaling sometimes.- Relatively large screen bezzles in 2018.- The system has crashed for a few times already.- Android app support is not mature yet. Scaling issues are everywhere. For students like me:- No native free citation managers available, which is necessary when writing papers.- OneDrive support is quite poor even with the Android app.- OneNote app does not support ChromeOS.Pros:+ 1080p IPS display! Very good viewing angle.+ Metal body (- cold for your lap in winter)+ Decent performance with 4GB of RAM and a quad-core processor.+ Fan-less design yet it never heats up.+ Good battery life. Easily 10+ hrs.+ Android app support.+ Good keyboard layout with decent typing experience.+ 180-degree hinge.+ 802.11AC WiFi+ Surprisingly good webcam.+ ChromeOS is secure and long-lived. Future updates from Google should make it better over time.I have only had it for a few days so I can’t give comment on everything yet. Afterall, it is a very good buy for a Chromebook and a daily casual laptop.

2018 Acer 14″ FHD IPS Display Premium Flagship Business Chromebook-Intel Celeron Quad-Core Processor Up to 2.24Ghz, 4GB RAM, 32GB SSD, HDMI, WiFi, Bluetooth Chrome OS-(Certified Refurbished)
(August 2, 2018) First off, although I tried to research this as well as possible, there is no model number mentioned anywhere, thus no way to tell for sure what exactly one will receive. Would be advisable to ask the vendor for the full model number – and make sure you get the info. I asked 3 questions and only got one answer. (And I could find no difference between the ‘Business’ model I ordered and the ‘Student’ model.)The unit arrived today, quickly safely in a cacoon. However as soon as I opened it I realized all was not well; there was ONLY the Chromebook and NO charger! Hmm… I ask you, how can one use a device without a way to charge it? I have sent a message to the vendor and will add to this review when I hear from them. THREE STARS for now…In the meantime I have had to order a charger and have it shipped overnight so it will arrive Friday. I will be on the road for two weeks starting Saturday evening and I really doubt the battery in the Chromebook will last that long. (Okay, a little sarcasm!) May not even last through the setup process of adding my apps, setting up email etc. Point is, I should NOT have had to buy a charger. Hopefully they will send one to me – and I will keep as a spare. We will see how this gets handled and I will let you know. The unit appears to be in pristine condition. Booted right up and I flew through the setup process. I was mistakenly under the impression that these took a USB “C” type plug… and was hoping to add some ports etc. No such luck. Just a very mini barrel plug for the adapter. Sigh. Not a deal breaker but will slow down some of the things I wanted to do.The display IS rather dim… readable and watchable, but dim. Works very well on my 55″ monitor/flatscreen T.V. however! Also notable is that these units automaticall load drivers for Logitech Unifying USB dongle and I instantly had access to my laptops keyboard and mouse — this is a huge plus!More of the setup and operation (as well as longevity) later! Ciao

Its pretty good rarely glitches but dont download to many apps only like 1 or 2. It came with a charger and ac adapter so you dont have to buy anything additional. It also had a wireless mouse ( weak cover broke 3/10 of it) take off the top theres a tiny opening for you to open up. like it more than amazon basics mouse because its much flatter and no crooked hands. make sure when opening for batteries theres a little port that you pull out it took me hours to figure out i had to watch a video. Screens beautiful it can last for pretty much 10 hours but when your playing roblox for most of the minigames in roblox your characters are stuck. Its 2017 and if you want a macbook just because of the thines dont buy it. This on is only 2% thicker and really nice tree bark pattern. If theres sticky stuff which one reviewer said heres the answer ( i have gotten a refrubrished ipad with the same stuff just get a sponge and scrub it off with soap. small speakers on the bottom so its hard to here volume but its fine with headphones. 1 hdmi slot 2 usb 3.0 so you can insert any type of usb. Use as secondary computer. get a mackbook probaly but also this. maybe a desktop. Keyboard is not as thin as people say ( ive used macbook pro the newest version and its keys are super hard and thin). Great with google apps reliable because googles pretty good at security. Highly recomend. buy case seperatly. Im actually writing this review with it! Im not able to take photos.

I try to only write reviews for things that aren’t reviewed a bunch, this one fits that bill. I don’t have a ton to say about it because it works absolutely perfect for me and the others have said most of the things I have dealt with. I wanted a laptop for browsing the internet, using my phone has become tedious in that aspect. My 6 year old ASUS laptop has seen better days, with intermittent issues and the battery being toast so I need to keep it plugged in. I wanted something simple to replace it, inexpensively, with something simple to use. After reading the reviews here, I took the plunge and as others have said, mine showed up in new condition. I did pay attention to the seller, something I suggest everyone do for any product you buy online, and chose the one that had the highest rating.Something that does not yet stand out, Android Google Play is loadable on this Chromebook after you update the OS. Every app that I have tried has functioned well, although I imagine that not EVERY app will have that same compatibility. I’m looking into an app called Limbo, apparently it can run some windows programs but I have yet to use it. Frankly if that actually works, then I never have another need for a Windows or Linux computer ( I have preferred Linux.)Your needs may be very different than mine, I couldn’t be happier with mine.
